In the early 1970s Edward Clayfield known to many as Ed, became a qualified heating engineer, installing complete heating systems into peoples homes in the Bristol area.
Each week, he would be given an address and materials and have 5 days to complete each job, from removing open fires and replacing with modern gas fires with flue, a complete radiator system including all new pipework, tanks and boiler. This then was carried out by 1 person. The work was hard and the days long, but he often said it stood him in good stead to be a problem solver and good all round engineer. Which he was.
He used his knowledge and experience to set up a successful plumbing and heating business where he enjoyed to work around his trusted employees and family members up until he passed away following a short illness.
He designed and developed a transportable heating rig which would supply heating and hot water to commercial sites should their systems fail. He showcased this during a visit by the late Queen and Prince Philip in 2012 where Prince Philip showed particular interest.
Ed would often talk about his holidays and some of the places he loved to visit. One place stood out, Lipari an island off Sicily which he often visited with his parents and sisters when he was younger.
In honour of his memory, we set up Lipari FM and will continue to bring his work ethic and personal touch to each customer and job we carry out.
